Pompeii Mosaics

Watching MedTrekker and UCLA archeology student Sara Stratte examine sections of a mosaic taken from Pompeii, Italy, to a small museum in Northern California.

Mosaics from Pompeii discovered by The Idiot at The Behrens-Eaton House Museum in Redding, CA, this week are deemed to be in excellent condition. The chunks of mosaic floor were taken from Pompeii by Redding Judge Richard B. Eaton when he was serving in the US Army in Italy in 1944. The Redding Record Searchlight will run a story on the surprising find in its Sunday paper (Dec. 27). The museum told The Idiot that they are prepared to return the "find" to Italy.

About Joel

He lived in France for over 30 years, working as a journalist, before he turned his attention to a unique life-time-project of walking the shores of the Mediterranean. The first 4,401 kilometers are explored in his inspirational and entertaining first book "The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean." The next 4,401 kilometers are covered in the gods-filled sequel, "The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean,” published on Valentine's Day 2013. The last 4,401 kilometers will be discussed in the last book of the trilogy currently entitled "The Idiot and the Odyssey III: Alexander the Great Walks the Mediterranean."
