Author Joel Stratte-McClure, aka The Idiot, published the third book about his footloose trek around the Mediterranean Sea in September 2018. Entitled “The Idiot and the Odyssey III: Twenty Years Walking the Mediterranean,” it describes The Idiot’s footloose journey through Turkey and down the shores of Syria, Lebanon and Israel into Egypt and Tunisia. Now 8,802 kilometers into an epic quest that he calls a MedTrek, “Follow the Idiot” began recording Joel’s day-to-day hiking adventures during his counterclockwise circumnavigations of Sicily, the Peloponnese and Mount Athos in 2010. Virtual travelers tracked Joel’s day-to-day advances on Google maps, got updates about his progress and problems, viewed his photos and laughed at his witty and wry observations during these zany outings. His last MedTrek outing saw him swim across the Hellespont and march through Troy to Izmir to conclude “The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean.”
