Check out my GPS SPOT location at the end of my 34 kilometre walking adventure, first day out on the MedTrek around Sicily. My soft adventure travelogue reads as an eventful and dramatic day, battling winds, fording creeks, meeting the locals, and remarkably since this is Sicily, finding my squat door wide open on my return with contents untouched.

Joel Stratte-McClure, aka the Idiot, resumes his trek around the Mediterranean Sea in Sicily where he follows the route that the Romans took in 263 BC. He’s returning to Messina after a side trek aboard the Corinthian II cruise ship took him to the Greek Islands and he climbed Mount Olympus. When he rewarded himself with a gelato in Villafranca Tirrena and asked for a drink, the server said “You’re not just thirsty, you’re stupid!”

Living on the Edge

Living on the Edge: The Idiot traverses one of many cliffs on the Mediterranean seaside. This one is near Scilla, Italy, which is believed to be the home of the six-headed monster that ate members of Odysseus’ crew.

Meeting My Mentor

I run into Odysseus, as well as Athena and other gods/goddesses from “The Odyssey,” frequently on my trek around the Mediterranean. Here I am posing with him at the archeological museum in Sperlonga, Italy.
