The Idiot is a firm believer that MedTrekkers should “leave only their footprints and take only photographs or memories” when they walk around the Mediterranean Sea.
That’s why he’ll be bringing back much less weight (both on his body and in his backpack) than he had when he launched his current hike across southern Turkey to Syria three weeks ago.
Here are some of his weightless photographic memories and Turkish treasures during the first week of October:

Watching women knead dough and prepare gözleme near Mersin, Turkey.

Comparing the ruins of Pompeiopolis with more recently constructed apartment buildings.

Juxtaposing the top of seaside palm trees with the six minarets at the Muğdat Mosque in Mersin, Turkey.

Visiting a camp for migrant farmworkers, who pick cotton and harvest crops, in Kaldirim, Turkey.(Photo: Liz Chapin)

Exploring an archeological dig in someone’s front yard on the seaside in Yumurtalik, Turkey.

Meeting the poet laureate of Yumurtalik, Turkey.

Following two women carrying lamb to be cooked for a Sacrificial Feast during the four-day Kurban Bayrami holiday in Bebeli, Turkey.

Dining on freshly caught fish at Sabonun Yeri in the harbor in Yumurtalik, Turkey.

Enjoying the meditative view from The Idiot’s base camp in Yumurtalik, Turkey.

Catching a glimpse of the Sabanci Central Mosque in Adana while being briefed on the situation in Syria.
Then he kicked off his last week of MedTrekking through southern Turkey to Syria at dawn on Tuesday, October 7, @ http://goo.gl/Zy8Bhn.
