The Idiot flies to Beirut on 9/11 to resume his MedTrek from the Syria border down the coasts of Lebanon and Israel.
He spent his last weekend in Northern California letting his 30-year-old son Luke act as a personal trainer to ensure that he’s in decent shape for his next rigorous walking stint around the Mediterranean Sea.
The Idiot and his son Luke swam, hiked, exercised, ate, played Scrabble and saw some appropriate films during his last weekend in Northern California.

One hike took the duo to Shasta Lake, which rangers said would be much lower than it is without California’s successful conservation measures.

Luke’s MedTrek training style involved lots of whistling.
Naturally there were some lighter moments despite the grueling workout routines. The father/son team took their 95-year-old mother/grandmother to movies and meals and The Idiot got nabbed cooling off in a swimming pool during one of their hikes.

The two lovable buddies in A Walk In The Woods forgot more than a weekend with a personal trainer before they tackled the Appalachian Trail.
The Idiot and his son were inspired to keep exercising by a story about the upcoming MedTrek in Lebanon in the local Redding Record Searchlight. Amber Sandhu’s article “Bound For Lebanon: Hiker Taking Trek to Mideast” was subtitled “Self-described ‘idiot’ planning Lebanon trip.”
The article about The Idiot’s upcoming MedTrek in Lebanon was promoted on the front page of the Redding Record Searchlight on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Next week: The Idiot kicks off his MedTrek in Lebanon.
