MedTrek Guidance

The Idiot usually relies solely on the sea to find the path while MedTrekking in Turkey. After all, the Mediterranean (aka Aegean) is always on his right.

I usually just listen to the sea.

I usually just listen to the sea.

But sometimes he needs help from other sentient beings. This nanny-and-kid goat team, for example, led him to a beach full of bathing beauties.

Goats are occasionally my MedTrek minders.

Frequently information comes from locals on the seaside and on buses before he hits the path.

Even though much information is misleading or erroneous it never hurts to ask.

"Where's the seaside?"

“Where’s the seaside?”

And sometimes, like when The idiot consulted the Oracle at the spring in Didyma, divine guidance is required. Incidentally, the Oracle told him to spend a week at a spiritual sanctuary on the Greek island of Patmos before continuing the MedTrek in Güllük, Turkey, on May 20.

He lived in France for over 30 years, working as a journalist, before he turned his attention to a unique life-time-project of walking the shores of the Mediterranean. The first 4,401 kilometers are explored in his inspirational and entertaining first book "The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean." The next 4,401 kilometers are covered in the gods-filled sequel, "The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean,” published on Valentine's Day 2013. The last 4,401 kilometers will be discussed in the last book of the trilogy currently entitled "The Idiot and the Odyssey III: Alexander the Great Walks the Mediterranean."
