Toasting his 96-year-old mother after she drove three hours from Redding, CA, across the Trinity Alps for a festive lunch at the family house above the Pacific Ocean.
And after a three-hour lunch, which included toasted marshmallows with ice cream and chocolate sauce, she drove back across the Trinity Alps to Redding.

Joel Stratte-McClure has been a global trekker since the 1970s.
