A resumption of MedTrekking on Turkey’s Lycian Way immediately mixes sandy Mediterranean beaches with monumental ancient cities. The ideal MedTrekking conditions on the vacant and generally unlittered Patara Beach create a meditative mood and glorious walking path.
The current MedTrek kicked off on the 12-kilometer long Patara Beach.
The relaxed pace was complemented by slow MedTrek meanders into the ancient Lycian cities of Patara, Letoon and Xanthos. The Lycians, who were here before 2000 BC, sent troops to fight in Troy during the Trojan War in 1192 BC and surrendered to Alexander the Great in 333 BC.

We weren’t the only visitors to Letoon.
But we were alone with the silence of the past at Xanthos.
Naturally we kick off the current MedTrek at a zenny pace. Liz perfects the MedCrawl while The Idiot walks barefoot.

About Joel
Joel Stratte-McClure has been a global trekker since the 1970s. He lived in France for over 30 years, working as a journalist, before he turned his attention to a unique life-time-project of walking the shores of the Mediterranean. The first 4,401 kilometers are explored in his inspirational and entertaining first book "The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean." The next 4,401 kilometers are covered in the gods-filled sequel, "The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean,” published on Valentine's Day 2013. The last 4,401 kilometers will be discussed in the last book of the trilogy currently entitled "The Idiot and the Odyssey III: Alexander the Great Walks the Mediterranean."
