Want to leisurely visit some of the most romantic spots on the Mediterranean Sea with The Idiot from June 5-12?
Join me (Joel Stratte-McClure, author of “The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean,” an experienced hiker and a knowledgeable guide) on a unique walking vacation from the Italian border to Cannes, France.
As a one-week guest guide for The Blue Walk, I’ll escort you on a combination of cultivated seaside paths, easy walking trails and urban sidewalks through Menton, Monte Carlo, Nice, Antibes, Cannes and other fabled destinations on the legendary Côte d’Azur. I lived on the French Riviera for over two decades and will provide a running commentary, as well as some walking meditation practices, during the daily hikes.
These easy 3-4 hour daily strolls should not be confused with my well-documented, rigorous and lengthy MedTrek outings. The Blue Walk tour is relaxing, reasonably priced and intended for people of all ages and fitness levels. Our base camp is a decent hotel in Nice and comfortable shoes are all you need. This is an ideal active vacation suitable for couples, families, single travelers, baby boomers or a group of friends. And I’ll definitely be in a relaxed hiking mode after MedTrekking around Crete and other Greek islands in April/May.
Participants will also be invited to a book presentation/reading/signing that I’ll be conducting at the Cannes English Bookshop (11 rue Bivouac Napoleon, 06400 Cannes) on Saturday, June 11 (2:30-4:30 pm). I’ll describe my ongoing walk around the sea and provide a glimpse at the contents of the upcoming sequel entitled “The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean.”
