Here are the last six of The Idiot’s Twelve Commonsense Tips for Mindful MedTrekking.
7. There’s more daylight during summer months but it’s hot, tourists are everywhere and accommodation is more expensive and sometimes difficult to find. Try April/May/early June and September/October.
Avoid the summer tourist crowd.
8. It’s fun to hike with friends but it’s essential, and often much more interesting, to hike alone from time to time.

9. There’s nothing more delightful than meeting strangers on the road.

10. Never reserve a room in advance and always be prepared to stay on the beach, in a monastery, at a nudist colony or almost anywhere else. It’s part of the game.
Be flexible about accommodations. This open-aired B&B was an out-of-season bargain on October 1.

11. Forget the destination, take it a step at a time and don’t worry about what’s around the next corner (actually, there aren’t many corners). The goal is the path, the path is the goal.
The goal is the path, the path is the goal.
12. Try to practice the relaxed attitude of the MedTrek in other parts of your life.

About Joel
Joel Stratte-McClure has been a global trekker since the 1970s. He lived in France for over 30 years, working as a journalist, before he turned his attention to a unique life-time-project of walking the shores of the Mediterranean. The first 4,401 kilometers are explored in his inspirational and entertaining first book "The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean." The next 4,401 kilometers are covered in the gods-filled sequel, "The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean,” published on Valentine's Day 2013. The last 4,401 kilometers will be discussed in the last book of the trilogy currently entitled "The Idiot and the Odyssey III: Alexander the Great Walks the Mediterranean."
