Carr Fire

Catching a Carr Fire Exhibit with paintings by Suzanne Gibbs at the Mosaic Gallery at Turtle Bay in  Redding, California.

The Sundial Bridge in Redding, California, as it appeared just over a year ago during the devastating Carr Fire. The exhibit of paintings by local artist Suzanne Gibbs in the Mosaic Gallery at the Sheraton Hotel is just steps away from the bridge, which was not damaged by the July-August 2018 fire.

The paintings by Suzanne Gibbs, who was evacuated during the Carr Fire from her home near French Gulch, evoke the flames, smoke, heat, terror and beauty of a fire that burned 229,651 acres, destroyed over 1,600 buildings and resulted in eight fatalities in and around Redding, California. It started on July 23, 2018, and was not contained until August 30. Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales of the paintings, which are on display until October 18, go to the Red Cross.
