What Makes A Young MedTrekker Turn “Yellow”?

Luke Stratte-McClure with his father The Idiot in Morocco.

My son Luke, one of many MedTrekkers featured in my book “The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean,” has hiked more kilometers around the Mediterranean Sea with me than anyone else.

His day job as an actor in Hollywood prevented Luke, 25, from joining me on my recent MedTrek around Sicily. But we did get together in southern California last weekend after I hiked 900 kilometers around the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. One highlight of my visit was watching Luke perform as a member of the much-touted ensemble cast of “Yellow,” Del Shores’ highly regarded new play at the Coast Playhouse on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Luke McClure, as he’s known in the biz, is as good an actor as he is a MedTrekker.

The review in “Backstage,” said “Anchoring the ensemble, as the seemingly perfect son, McClure gives a portrayal that subtly but assuredly sharpens the unfolding tragedy. His journey from joy to fear to courage to nobility is masterfully depicted.”

In fact, the first batch of reviews of the play and universal applause for the ensemble cast of “Yellow” might encourage you to see Luke in action if you’re in Los Angeles before the run ends on July 25.

If you miss “Yellow,” you might see Luke again on the MedTrek if he decides to Follow the Idiot.

About Joel

Joel Stratte-McClure has been a global trekker since the 1970s. He lived in France for over 30 years, working as a journalist, before he turned his attention to a unique life-time-project of walking the shores of the Mediterranean. The first 4,401 kilometers are explored in his inspirational and entertaining first book "The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean." The next 4,401 kilometers are covered in the gods-filled sequel, "The Idiot and the Odyssey II: Myth, Madness and Magic on the Mediterranean,” published on Valentine's Day 2013. The last 4,401 kilometers will be discussed in the last book of the trilogy currently entitled "The Idiot and the Odyssey III: Alexander the Great Walks the Mediterranean."
