The Idiot has been dining at La Tour d’Argent in Paris — and enjoying this delicious view of Notre Dame Cathedral and the Seine — since he helped write a guidebook to the city in 1972. Although the resto now has only one Michelin star, The Idiot and Olivia de Havilland (he interviewed her about this in 1978) agree that it’s the most romantic meal in town.

Joel Stratte-McClure has been a global trekker since the 1970s.
