What Did The Idiot’s Daughter Encourage Him To Do Outside Her Hometown On the Mediterranean Sea?

What did The Idiot’s daughter encourage/force him to do outside her hometown on the Mediterranean Sea?

Did Sonia lead him even further astray once they were out of Antibes paying visits to Gourdon, Monte-Carlo, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Valbonne and other haunts that The Idiot frequented when he lived on the French Riviera from 1984 to 2004?

Here’s what they did and what you missed:

Got a view of the French Riviera and the Mediterranean Sea from the hilltop village of Gourdon. (Photo: Sonia Stratte-McClure)

Got a view of the Riviera backcountry from the hilltop village of Gourdon.

Walked a short distance on the Chemin du Paradis (Pathway to Paradise) down the hill near Gourdon.

Watched Sonia’s dog Oreo swim in one of the fountains in the hilltop village of Gourdon above the French Riviera.

Bought artisanal soap and candles from a shop in the hilltop village of Gourdon above the French Riviera.

Visited Valbonne and sent this photo to everyone he knew named Annette. (Photo: Sonia Stratte-McClure)

Learned in Valbonne, where The Idiot lived for over 20 years, that pandemic-masks are useful when hanging out with women who smoke or carry lavender. (Photo: Sonia Stratte-McClure)

Got a view of the Mediterranean Sea from the hillside village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence.

Walked through the streets of Saint-Paul-de-Vence in the hills above the French Riviera.

Visited a new English-language school started in Saint-Paul-de-Vence by Britt Eisenhour, who gave The Idiot one of her late father’s (and one of his best friend’s) favorite shirts.

Stumbled upon a flag of Monaco while walking around the principality.

Expressed surprise at the sight of Portier Cove, the latest project to reclaim land from the sea, when he hiked through Monaco.

Admired perfectly pruned palm trees on a Mediterranean beach on the French Riviera.

Dined with Dina Kirkdorffer and her partner/parents on the beach in Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

Showed Dina Kirkdorffer what he’d been getting up to on the French Riviera. (Photo: Sonia Stratte-McClure)

Forgot Swan Lake. Thought Swan Sea on the Mediterranean in Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

Said goodnight to the swans and the Mediterranean Sea before returning to Antibes.

Feel free to read and learn much more about the French Riviera in The Idiot and the Odyssey: Walking the Mediterranean available on amazon.
